Autumn is a lovely time of year to be married. Crisp days and (hopefully) late season sunshine can make your wedding day the best ever. If your venue has gardens, then the changing colours of the leaves will make a dramatic backdrop for your photos. If not, create your own backdrop with an arch decorated in autumn foliage.
Colours for autumn are reflected in nature, deep burnt orange, pale gold, burgundy, russet and faded bloom colours. Flowers are big and overblown with lots of autumnal backgrounds. Tie small autumnal posies to seating, perhaps secured with tulle ribbon.
Other decor ideas might include strings of leaf garlands in autumn colours hung from central points and interspersed with fairy lights. Carry the theme through on menu cards and labels.
Fabrics can be slightly heavier; satin falls beautifully and comes in rich colours that are perfect for autumn weddings. Autumn afternoons can be cold, so incorporate pashminas, wraps or capes into your outfits.
Your guests too may feel the chill whilst waiting for photos. Swap the summer-based Pimms for mulled wine, or hot chocolate. A lovely touch for the ladies is to offer a basket of pashminas tied with pretty ribbon and perhaps a personalised tag.
As the early evening comes, a clever use of lighting can highlight your autumn colours. Use uplighters to full effect and tealights (preferably battery ones for safety)!
Finally, sparklers! They will look great in the crisp autumn evening, just before the light fades.
